FISHERSVILLE - Steven Scott Steagall, 44, of 34 Goose Meadow Ct., Fishersville, VA., died Monday, April 14, 2003 at AMC, surrounded by his family and friends, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Scott was born April 25, 1958 in Waynesboro. He was the son of L. Miller and Sylvia S. Ponton and the late Steven Alexander Steagall.
He graduated from Waynesboro High School, class of 1976 and the University of Virginia, class of 1980 with an accounting degree. Scott was a certified public accountant, a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, Virginia Society of CPA's, Institute of Internal Auditors and Beta Alpha Psi, National Accounting Fraternity.
He had previously worked for Ernst and Young and most recently for Land America in Richmond. He had resided in the Richmond area for 23 years until moving closer to his family in February of this year after becoming so ill.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Stephen G. Steagall and Frances S. Haga and his maternal grandparents, Roy and lleita Sensabaugh.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, B. Clay Steagall and wife Debbie and their son Derek of Waynesboro, his sister Angela Ponton, also of Waynesboro, his grandfather, Franklin Haga of Stuarts Draft.
He also leaves behind many dear and devoted friends, JoAnn Jacks, Steve and Emily Moore, Margaret Collier, Duane and Linda Hobbs, John and Michelle Bone, Vickie Sherin and Shannon McLear, his caring and dedicated nurses, Cheryl Miller of Richmond, Diane Burns and Nancy Sensabaugh, locally.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. in the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds Funeral Service, Saturday, April 19, 2003. Immediately following the service, a gathering to celebrate Scott's life will be held at his home on Goose Meadow Court.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 18, 2003 from 7- 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home and other times at the home of his parents, 75 Yarmouth Rd., Stuarts Draft.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of J. 0. Arey, 325 Driscoll Ave., Staunton, Va. 24401, to be used exclusively for soft tissue sarcoma projects or the Staunton/Augusta County Rescue Squad, 1601 N. Coalter St., Staunton, Va, 24401.
